Overview

Opening in 1872 as Minfford Junction, it was the point where several lines met - the Dovey to Pwllheli route, the newly constructed Aberystwith and Welsh Coast line, and the Festiniog Railway. The latter was a narrow-gauge track designed to carry slate to the port at Porthmadog. In 1890 the station was renamed Minffordd.

Serving the world-famous resort of Portmeirion, the well-kept station has several other buildings on the site, including a pretty Grade II cottage. The home of the late crossing keeper Mrs Lottie Edwards and her husband Dai, it has been carefully restored in the couple’s memory.
