Earlier this year, our long-standing WiT member Jo Ward released a book We All Ride Bikes Now, together with her co-author Philip Crompton. The story follows Anna and Jake, two young people who try to change the world.

Women in Transport Book Club: Summer 2021 Session

Warmer weather is (hopefully) just around the corner, and with it the summer session of the Women in Transport book club. Based on member votes, we will discuss Girl, Women, Other by Bernardine Evaristo. A winner of the Booker Prize in 2019, the novel creatively weaves together the stories of twelve different characters. While most characters are black British women, each offers a unique perspective on family, friendship, relationships, and feminism.

We hope you’ll be able to join us at the spring 2021 session where we will discuss Rebel Ideas: The importance of diverse thought by Matthew Syed. A Times columnist and popular podcaster, Syed argues for the importance of seeking out differences in perspective, insights, experiences and thinking styles. The book goes beyond pushing for diversity out of political correctness, and describes why it is a fundamental pillar of successful teams and companies.

Women in Transport Book Club: Session 2

Women in Transport is holding a second session of its virtual book club following a successful launch in April this year.

Based on suggestions from members, this session will focus on The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood.

While a work of fiction, this influential book is ultimately a commentary on current social conditions and the injustices that target women. Its theme of perseverance against inequity still resonates today despite being published 25 years ago.

Women in Transport Book Club: Session 1

Women in Transport are launching a virtual book club. This first session will focus on the best-selling book, Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Perez. The book club is only open to Women in Transport members. This first session is a test event as this is our first time launching a virtual book club so we have limited places to 20 members. If the session proves popular and the format works well, we will look at running more sessions so we can open up this networking opportunity to more members. We will also consider running multiple breakout rooms in Zoom. There is no charge for this event.
