The National Waterfront Museum is a good starting point. Telling the enthralling story of Wales, it features cutting edge interactive exhibits and innovative displays, mixed with more traditional approaches, and is exciting fun for both adults and kids. In the heart of Swansea lies the other big museum in the town. With collections dating back to the pre-Bronze Age Paviland caves - the earliest excavated caves in Britain, the Swansea Museum houses some of the country’s most important artefacts, while in other galleries international treasures are displayed - fascinating mummies from Egypt, pottery and other finds from Ancient Greece and Rome, and so much more.

After all that history, time for an adrenaline buzz on the Gower Peninsula. At first look, this gorgeously peaceful Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty couldn’t be further from adrenaline if it tried. Gloriously wild sand dunes, natural salt marsh and imposing limestone cliffs will take your breath away. Enjoy a picnic in this scenic landscape, before you continue the hunt for that thrill buzz. On the beach, you’ll find Gower Surfing! The receiver of frequent high praise from the national media, this surf school offers one-off tuition or longer courses, for beginners through to teaching advanced tricks. If you fancy learning to surf or bodyboard, this is the place for you.

If you require some retail therapy after all that excitement, Swansea’s Oxford Street offers everything its more famous cousin does, but with a delightful Welsh spin. Designer stores and big name shops mingle with quaint independent boutiques showcasing interesting gifts, clothes and homewares. Swansea Market goes further, being the largest indoor market in Wales. Under its original curved glass and steel roof, there are over a hundred stalls displaying everything from studio glassware and handcrafted silver jewellery to deliciously morish delicacies to enjoy on your train ride home.
