Update: Incident due to a fault with the signalling system at Chester (CTR) until the end of the day.

Due to a fault with the signalling system at Chester (CTR):

Services will be delayed by up to 60 minutes.

Services may be cancelled at Chester (CTR).

We expect the incident to last until the end of the day and disruption to services is expected until the end of the day.

What's Happened?

We have been made aware of a signalling problem at Chester.

As a result, train services will not be able to run through the area until the signalling system is working normally.

Please be advised this incident affects our services between Chester and Crewe, Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport

Our colleagues at Network Rail are aware of the problem and technicians are currently en route to the affected signalling.

Please be aware that Avanti West Coast and Northern services at Chester are also affected by this incident. You can check your journey with any operator at tfw.wales.

We will publish more information here, once we have received an update from the infrastructure technicians.

Your ticket can be used on the following alternative routes to help you complete your journey, with the Train Operating Companies listed below at no extra cost:

  • Merseyrail between Chester and Liverpool Lime Street in both directions,
  • Northern between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly, Chester and Manchester Piccadilly via Warrington Bank Quay or Altringham in both directions.
  • Avanti West Coast between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly as well as Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street in both directions.
  • London NorthWestern Railway between Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street in both directions,

These arrangements are in place on services until 23:59

If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost.

Alternative Travel Options

We have limited road transport at Chester running between Chester and Warrington Bank Quay as well as between Chester and Crewe in both directions, to help you complete your journey, at no extra cost.

These arrangements are in place on services until 23:59.

Road Transport will take longer than rail services. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.

Update: Incident due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time between Llandudno Junction (LLJ) and Blaenau Ffestiniog (BFF) until the end of the day.

Due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time between Llandudno Junction (LLJ) and Blaenau Ffestiniog (BFF):

Services will be cancelled in both directions between Llandudno (LLD) and Blaenau Ffestiniog (BFF).

We expect the incident to last until the end of the day and disruption to services is expected from 07:00 until the end of the day.

What's Happened?

Due to severe weather, we are unable to run some train services between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Please be advised that both the following train services are still scheduled to run: any train services after this will be replaced and operated with replacement road transport which will run between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog in both directions.

05:15 Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog

06:19 Blaenau Ffestiniog to Llandudno

Alternative Travel Options

We have organised buses to run between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog to assist customers to complete journeys where possible at no extra cost. These will arrive at Llandudno at approximately 07:08 and at Blaenau Ffestiniog at approximately 08:38 provided by Llew Jones.

These arrangements are in place on services until the end of teh day.

Road Transport will take longer than rail services. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.

Due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time between Shrewsbury (SHR) and Aberystwyth (AYW):

Services will be cancelled in both directions between Shrewsbury (SHR) and Aberystwyth (AYW).

We expect the incident to last until 23:59 on 14/07/2026 and disruption to services is expected from 03:00 on 14/07/2026 until 23:59 on 14/07/2026.

What's Happened?

We expect to have a reduced number of trains available on Tuesday 14th July whilst our depot teams continue to work to ensure our on board air conditioning is fully functional.

There will be no services running between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth in either direction

You can use the following local bus services to help you complete your journey, at no extra cost:

  • Route X75 provided by Celtic Travel between Shrewsbury and Welshpool.
  • Route T12 provided by Lloyds Coaches between Welshpool and Machynlleth via Newtown.
  • Route T2 and T28 provided by Lloyds Coaches between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth.

We have organised buses to run between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth to assist customers to complete journeys where possible at no extra cost. These will be provided by Lloyds Coaches. These arrangements are in place on services until the end of the day. You can find the times for these services for your journey using our journey planner at tfw.wales.

Road Transport will take longer than rail services. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.

We have organised buses to run between Aberystwyth and Machynlleth to assist customers to complete journeys where possible at no extra cost. These will arrive at Machynlleth at approximately 10:50 provided by Lloyds and we estimate the following departure times:

This means a reduced number of services are able to run between Wrexham General and Chester in both directions.

This means Transport For Wales services will start and terminate at Wolverhampton instead of Birmingham New Street or Birmingham International today.

We have been made aware of more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time, affecting services between Newport (South Wales) and Ebbw Vale Town.

As a result, our services between Newport (South Wales) and Ebbw Vale Town will be cancelled until end of service today.

Our services between Newport (South Wales) and Ebbw Vale Town are disrupted in both directions.

We expect the incident to be cleared by 23:59. Train services may be disrupted until 23:59.

Please note that our direct services between Cardiff Central and Ebbw Vale Town are unaffected by this incident.

Customers at Newport (South Wales) requiring stations towards Ebbw Vale Town are advised to travel on Transport for Wales services towards Cardiff Central and change for connecting services towards Ebbw Vale Town.

Customers at stations between Ebbw Vale Town and Pye Corner are advised to travel to Cardiff Central and change for connecting Transport for Wales services towards Newport (South Wales).

Alternative Travel Options:

Customers can use local bus services to complete journeys where possible at no extra cost:

  • Route 21 provided by Stagecoach South Wales between Newbridge and Llanhilleth.
  • Route 56 provided by Stagecoach South Wales between Newport and Crosskeys via Rogerstone and Pontymister.
  • Route 76 provided by Stagecoach South Wales between Abergavenny, Ebbw Vale and Merthyr Tydfil.
  • Route 151 provided by Stagecoach South Wales between Newport and Newbridge via Pye Corner, Rogerstone, Pontymister, Risca and Crosskeys.
  • Route X15 provided by Stagecoach South Wales between Newport and Llanhilleth via Rogerstone, Crosskeys and Newbridge.
