About Bangor (Gwynedd) railway station

The last station serving the Welsh mainland, Bangor station is on the North West Coast line, and was opened in 1848. Over the centuries, a number of branch lines have been added, expanding the station building, while, at the same time, going through various name changes, including Bangor for Beaumaris, and Bangor (Caerns).

The incarnation we see today was finished in 1927, but parts of the original Victorian decorative finishes, designed by architect Francis Thompson, have been lovingly preserved. As the branch lines gradually closed, the station's platforms were decreased from four to two, and today they have nearly three-quarters of a million passengers arriving and departing from them annually.
