Are you 18 - 25 years old, live in Butetown or Grangetown and experienced barriers to work?
We’ve partnered with United 2 Change, Citizens Cymru and South Wales Police to create Routes into Employment. It could be your opportunity to build a rewarding career with Transport for Wales.
Whether you’re interested in customer service, transport operations or digital innovation, we’ll train you for a wide range of careers. You’ll get valuable work experience, learn on the job and gain skills for your future. Our experienced and friendly colleagues will be there to help you.
You don’t need qualifications or experience. We’re looking for potential, hidden talent and motivation.
We’re exploring more ways we can use Routes into Employment to benefit people and communities across Wales.

FAQs
1. Why is the scheme for people who live in Butetown and Grangetown only?
Grant funding has been secured to support the communities of Butetown and Grangetown. TfW will part-fund the scheme and work in partnership with other community organisations to secure additional funding. Together, we aim to offer meaningful opportunities to underrepresented communities across Wales.
2. What opportunities are available?
We have three places available on the scheme.
There are a variety of opportunities available with us, including roles in infrastructure, finance, HR, onboard food and drink, cleaning and customer service.

3. What sort of training would I have?
You’ll get on-the-job training and real work experience - plus some extra job-specific training if your placement involves working directly with customers. Please note that for safety reasons, this opportunity isn’t available for roles that are safety critical such as train driver or conductor.
4. What experience do I need?
No experience is required. All you need is energy, passion for the transport industry and a real interest in what we’re doing for customers across Wales and the Borders. If you’re keen to learn and ready to grow, we want to hear from you!
5. How long is the scheme?
The scheme will run for 20 weeks.
6. How many days a week would I be working?
You’ll be working two days a week.
7. Is there flexibility on what days I could work?
Yes. We’re aware you may have other obligations. We’ll work with you to find the most suitable days.
8. What would my working hours be?
You’ll be working five hours a day between 8am and 5pm. We’ll work with you to find the most suitable times.
9. Where would I be working?
In Cardiff or Pontypridd.
10. Would my travel expenses be covered?
Yes. We’ll give you a letter which acts as a temporary pass for free travel on our services to get you to and from work.
