Where is Swansea?

Swansea is a coastal city in south west Wales, around an hour to the west of Cardiff by train. Sitting on the edge of Swansea Bay, it's the gateway to the Gower Peninsula, home to some of Wales' most spectacular coastal scenery. In 1956, the Gower became the UK's first designated ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ and is now recognised as a National Landscape.

With direct rail connections from cities including Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham and London, Swansea is a great destination for a day trip, short break or longer holiday.

 

Why visit Swansea?

Swansea offers the perfect mix of coast, culture and countryside. Spend the morning exploring the city centre, browse the stalls at Swansea's indoor market or learn more about Wales' industrial and maritime heritage at the National Waterfront Museum before heading to the seafront for an afternoon by the water.

If you venture beyond the city, you'll find the seaside village of Mumbles, famous for its Victorian pier, independent shops, cafés and ice cream. Just along the coast from Mumbles, the Gower Peninsula offers big sandy beaches, quiet bays, and stunning coastal walks.

Travel to Swansea by train

Travelling by train means you can arrive right in the heart of the city without worrying about traffic or parking. The city centre is only a few minutes' walk from Swansea railway station, where you can enjoy an abundance of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. A 15-minute walk to Quadrant Shopping Centre is where you will find Swansea’s bus station. It is from here that you can find regular travel toward Mumbles, the Gower Peninsula and other destinations across the Bay.
