New: Incident due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time between Shrewsbury (SHR) and Aberystwyth (AYW) until 23:00 on 18/09/2026.

Due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time between Shrewsbury (SHR) and Aberystwyth (AYW):

We expect the incident to last until 23:00 on 18/09/2026 and disruption to services is expected from 05:38 on 18/09/2026 until 23:00 on 18/09/2026.

We have been made aware of more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time, affecting our services between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth on Friday 18th September 2026.

As a result, the following services have been cancelled:

  • 05:38 Machynlleth to Aberystwyth
  • 06:17 Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury
  • 06:48 Welshpool to Aberystwyth
  • 08:27 Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury
  • 10:27 Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth
  • 12:27 Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury
  • 16:30 Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth
  • 18:27 Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury
  • 20:32 Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth
  • 22:35 Aberystwyth to Machynlleth

Our services between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth are disrupted in both directions.

We expect the incident to be cleared by 23:00. Train services may be disrupted until 23:00.

Alternative Travel Options:

We have organised buses to run between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth, and Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury to assist customers to complete journeys where possible at no extra cost. These will arrive at:

  • Machynlleth at approximately 05:38 provided by Lloyds, calling all stops to Aberystwyth.
  • Aberystwyth at approximately 06:17 provided by Lloyds, calling all stops to Shrewsbury.
  • Welshpool at approximately 06:48 provided by Lloyds, calling all stops to Aberystwyth.
  • Shrewsbury at approximately 20:32 provided by Lakeside and RH Travels, calling all stops to Aberystwyth.
  • Aberystwyth at approximately 22:35 provided by Lloyds, calling all stops to Machynlleth.

Please note: rail replacement services are unable to call at Dovey Junction due to geographical restrictions.

These arrangements are in place on services until 23:00.

Road Transport will take longer than rail services. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.

Services may be delayed by up to 5 minutes.

Services may be cancelled in both directions between Merthyr Tydfil (MER) and Quakers Yard (QYD).

We expect the incident to last until 23:45 and disruption to services is expected from 16:30 until the end of the day.

Customers can use local bus services between Merthyr and Pontypridd to help you complete your journey, at no extra cost:

  • 78/79/81/X4 Stagecoach Services.

You can use these services until end of bus service.

We apologise that our Pay As You Go cannot be used on local bus operators.

We advise passengers to tap out at the earliest opportunity.

We have road transport running between Abercynon and Merthyr Tydfil provided by Teulu, to help you complete your journey, at no extra cost.

Services will depart at the following times:

Abercynon XX.45 and Merthyr XX.15

Road Transport will take longer than rail services. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.
