Due to severe weather at Machynlleth (MCN):

Services may be cancelled from Aberystwyth (AYW) towards Shrewsbury (SHR).

We expect the incident to last until the end of the day and disruption to services is expected from 02:14 until the end of the day.

What's Happened?

Due to a shortage of trains caused by extreme heat, fewer services than normal will be able to run between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury as well as between Machynlleth and Pwllheli.

Alternative Travel Options

We have organised buses to run between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury in both directions provided by Lloyds Coaches, to assist customers to complete journeys where possible at no extra cost. Check services running in the area using the Transport for Wales Live Map. These arrangements are in place on services until the end of the day.

Our Rail Replacement services are extremely busy today and we're currently unable to source any additional vehicles. Where Rail replacement services are in place, we may not be able to accommodate all customers.

Road Transport will take longer than rail services. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.

Customers can also use the following local bus services in the area at no extra cost:

  • Traws Cymru services
  • Lloyds Cosches X85 service between Machynlleth and Newtown
  • Celtic Travel's X75 service between Newtown and Aberystwyth

Services from Pontypridd directly to Cardiff Bay will be Cancelled. Please use an alternative train service and change at Cardiff Queen Street for a service to Cardiff Bay.

Due to a shortage of trains caused by extreme heat, fewer services than normal will be able to run between Wrexham Central and Bidston.

Due to a shortage of trains caused by extreme heat, services between Bridgend and Maesteg will be cancelled.

We have organised buses provided by Forge Travel to run between Bridgend and Maesteg to assist customers to complete journeys where possible at no extra cost. Check services running in the area using the Transport for Wales Live Map

  • Bus route 70/71 between Bridgend and Maesteg operated by First Cymru.

Services may be cancelled in both directions between Cardiff Central (CDF) and Ebbw Vale Town (EBB).

We expect the incident to last until 23:30 on 26/06/2026 and disruption to services is expected from 05:30 until 23:30 on 26/06/2026.

What's Happened?

Due to a shortage of trains caused by extreme heat, fewer services than normal will be able to run between Cardiff Central and Ebbw Vale Town.

Customers should travel on rail services to Newport and change there for a service towards Ebbw Vale.

Your ticket can be used on GWR services to help you complete your journey, at no extra cost.

Services from Newport to Ebbw Vale Town are unaffected.

Services will be cancelled in both directions between Llandudno (LLD) and Blaenau Ffestiniog (BFF).

We expect the incident to last until 23:59 on 26/06/2026 and disruption to services is expected from 05:06 on 24/06/2026 until 22:59 on 26/06/2026.

What's Happened?

Due to severe weather, the line is closed between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog.

This means our services between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog are unable to run in either direction.

The line will be closed all day with all train services being replaced by Road replacement transport.

Alternative Travel Options

We have organised buses to serve all stations between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog to assist customers to complete journeys at no extra cost. These will be provided by Llew Jones.

Extended journey times can be expected. Approximate journey times by replacement road transport calling at all stations are 15 minutes between Llandiudno and Llandundo Junction and 1 hour 10 minutes between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.

Due to a shortage of trains caused by extreme heat, fewer services than normal will be able to run in both directions between Manchester Piccadilly and Cardiff Central via Crewe and Shrewsbury.

Customers are able to travel from Manchester Piccadilly to Crewe, Shrewsbury, and Cardiff Central on Transport for Wales services via Chester.

Services will be cancelled in both directions between Heath Low Level (HLL) and Penarth (PEN).

We expect the incident to last until 20:00 on 27/06/2026 and disruption to services is expected from 05:00 on 22/06/2026 until 20:00 on 27/06/2026.

What's Happened?

Hot weather has been forecast, Meaning train journeys may be subject to change. Please check before you travel.

A Shuttle will operate servicing stations - Coryton, Whitchurch, Rhiwbina, Birchgrove, Ty Glas and Heath Low Level in both directions. For passengers wishing to travel towards Cardiff Central or Rhymney, please change at Heath Low Level and walk to Heath High Level for connecting train services.

There will be a reduced service Between Cardiff Central and Penarth due to the severe weather forcast.
