Transport for Wales is connecting communities to their railways.
With our Community Rail Partnerships and station adoption scheme we are committed to showcasing the best our Wales and Borders network has to offer through events, projects and community conversations.
Creating a positive social impact in what we do is part of our core purpose in Community Rail; we want to do the right thing, make a difference and support the delivery of the Welsh Governments’ Connected Communities Strategy to tackle loneliness and social isolation and building stronger social connections.
The Community Rail Strategy is to:
- providing a voice for the community
- promoting sustainable, healthy and accessible travel
- bringing communities together and supporting diversity and inclusion
- supporting social and economic development
We have set a key priority within our Community Rail Strategy to “Maximise Our Social Impact”. Our vision by developing a collaborative, ‘one team’ approach within Community Rail, we will encourage communities across Wales and Borders to identify and leverage opportunities for social, cultural, economic and environmental benefits that the current train service provides. We will do this through purposeful engagement and constructive conversations to support communities get the most from their railways by promoting social inclusion, sustainable and accessible travel and, where possible, bringing stations to life.
Our commitment to supporting community led initiatives goes above and beyond our responsibilities at Transport for Wales. We work at grass route level at the heart of communities that makes us well placed to help deliver a behaviour change.
We are currently delighted to work with the following Community Rail Partnerships:
- Conwy Valley and North West Wales Community Rail Partnership
- 3 Counties Connected Community Rail Partnership
- Cambrian Community Rail Partnership
- Heart of Wales Community Rail Partnership
- South West Wales Connected Community Rail Partnership
Station Adoption has gone from strength to strength in Wales and the Borders. We have a diverse range of adopters from all walks of life who want to make their community station better. And best of all there are still some stations still needing adopters.
