A new bridge connecting communities in Llanelli

The Pont [Bridge] Phil Bennett opened in 2023. It allows pedestrians and cyclists to safely cross the A484 and gives access the retail hub at Parc Trostre. The bridge links up a broader network of routes and enhances accessibility in the town. Between November 2023 to October 2024, 96,854 journeys were recorded on the route. 16,946 were cyclists and 79,908 were pedestrians.

The bridge cost £1.7 million. It was delivered by Cyngor Sir Gâr - Carmarthenshire County Council and funded by the Welsh Government Active Travel Fund, with support from Transport for Wales. It was named after Phil Bennett, the rugby legend who played as fly-half for Llanelli RFC and Wales.

Councillor Edward Thomas, Carmarthenshire Council said: "The council is immensely proud to honour the legacy of Welsh rugby legend, Phil Bennett, with the unveiling of this new commemorative plaque. In commemorating Phil Bennett's legacy, we affirm our commitment to fostering a community that values and celebrates its sporting heroes.”
