Llanelli lies on the Loughor estuary in South Wales. Enjoying the shelter granted by Carmarthen Bay, this is a tourist hotspot, with visitors arriving to experience the famous Llanelli hospitality or to use as a base while exploring the rest of South Wales.

With both Swansea and Carmarthen nearby, and great road and rail links, there are plenty of things to do in and around Llanelli whether you’re on holiday with the children, taking a weekend break, or just having a day out.

1. Llanelli Scarlets Rugby

Llanelli is probably the most famous rugby town in Wales. It is the focal point for one of the most passionately supported rugby clubs in the world, the Scarlets. Visit Parc y Scarlets to experience the rich and unrivalled rugby heritage of this area and hear the magnificent singing voices of the crowd. 

 

2. Millennium Coastal Park

The coastline along the northern shore of the Loughor Estuary has been transformed into a unique array of tourist attractions, wildlife habitats and leisure facilities. At the heart of the Millennium Coastal Park is the Discovery Centre where the Flanagan’s café in the centre brings a flavour of the Riviera to the Millennium Coastal Park. It’s a great spot for cycling and walking.

 

3. Llanelli Wetland Centre

At the Llanelli Wetland Centre visitors can experience a range of habitats, including lagoons and lakes, reedbeds and woodland, making the 450 acres a haven for a wide variety of wildlife. Over 50,000 birds, both migratory and resident, with many being rare or endangered can be spotted, from bitterns hiding in the reeds, glossy ibis and the five species of native owl to sparrowhawks, red kites and goshawks. Animals, too, such as seals, otters and the rare soprano pipistrelle bats are often seen by excited visitors. With a programme of events designed to educate whilst being entertained, the Wetland Centre is full of family-friendly fun.
