History of Newbridge station

The original Newbridge station opened in 1850 and closed in the 1960s. The current station opened in 2008 as part of the reopening of the Ebbw Valley line. It included a new footbridge giving passengers easy access to the town centre.

Newbridge grew significantly in the 19th century, when coal mining brought workers into the region alongside the already established farming community. The collieries have long since closed and the land has been reclaimed by nature. Today, red kites, buzzards and kestrels are regularly spotted, making the countryside around Newbridge well worth exploring.

Nearby Blackwood also has deep roots in the coal industry and has gone on to become home to a number of successful businesses, as well as a thriving arts and culture scene.
