Overview
The views as trains pull into Pontypridd Station are stunning, with the wide expanse of the River Taff sweeping as it reaches the town. Opened in 1840, the station has undergone several large rebuilds, the latest in 2015 being the biggest. The whole station was modernised, whilst sensitively restoring much of the original red terracotta brickwork. With a total spend of £200 million, the area was regenerated, boosting train travel through Cardiff and beyond.
In 2019 the station was given a boost in the form of murals by contemporary street artist Lionel Stanhope. At 30ft by 12ft, the stunning artwork found universal acclaim and certainly added to the regeneration project.
