Overview

Running under the Severn Estuary, the 4-mile long Severn Tunnel, regarded as the pinnacle of civil engineering in the late 1800s, was designed to carry trains from southern England to South Wales. Allowing a more direct route for freight than by road or sea, until the opening of the Severn Bridge in 1966, this was the world's longest undersea tunnel; however, upon completion of the Channel Tunnel, the record was handed over.

The station is located in the small town of Rogiet and sees in excess of 250,000 passengers using its four platforms annually. Rogiet has grown from a tiny hamlet before the disproportionately large station opened, into a busy town, and continues to expand.
