Overview
Welshpool, the pretty market town in Powys, lies on the River Severn, and established itself around the castle built by Edward I of England in 1277. Today, Welshpool is a popular tourist destination thanks to its location at the foot of Snowdonia and the town’s impressive collection of historic buildings, including the Powis Castle estate.
Welshpool station was first opened in 1859, being refurbished in 1992. Located on the Cambrian Line, it’s managed by Transport for Wales, has a small car park and a waiting room. The station is unstaffed, so tickets must be purchased in advance or on the train.
