Active Travel Monitoring Framework
The Active Travel Monitoring Framework (ATMF) will establish a baseline to track and monitor progress in achieving Welsh Government’s ambitions for active travel. The framework has been developed using a similar format and approach to that taken for the Wales Transport Strategy Monitoring Framework (WTS).
TfW have engaged and collaborated with Welsh Government officials, the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Board and Local Authority officers to ensure a robust set of measures have been developed.
The framework is made up of 17 Measures which have been ordered to align with the 3 Priorities set out within the WTS. 15 Measures have been published initially, with the remaining 2 (M8 and M16) due to be published later in the year once the data becomes available. A review of key policy and plans relating to active travel in Wales, led to the development of 9 key objectives for the Active Travel Monitoring Framework. The framework highlights which measures will demonstrate progress towards each priority and objective. The data for each measure gives a picture of the current situation. This will be updated when new data is available.
A Technical Report, containing a full description of the calculation method used for each of the measures including their technical definition and information about their data sources and frequency, has been published alongside the framework.
