Hot weather expected this week
Travel advice for passengers
Temperatures across parts of our network are forecast to reach 30°C later this week and into the weekend.
Whilst most of our services will continue to run as normal, please check your journey before travelling using our website, app or live map.
If you're travelling in the hot weather, remember to:
- Bring plenty of water and stay hydrated.
- Wear appropriate clothing and sunscreen if spending time outdoors.
- Seek assistance from onboard or station staff if you begin to feel unwell. If you feel unwell before your journey, please do not board the train.
- Allow extra time for your journey, as travel may take longer than usual and services to busy seaside destinations are likely to be busy.
The current heat wave in Wales is due to peak on Friday 10 July and Saturday 11 July, to reduce network demand on these two dates a ticket easement has been put in place to allow passengers with a ticket dated for either date to use another Transport for Wales service up to and including Tuesday 14 July 2026.
Service changes affecting journeys
For the Shrewsbury - Birmingham route, due to the significant number of services being cancelled as a result of West Midlands Trains' industrial action, customers should expect cancellations and very busy services. We advise customers to plan carefully before travelling and only travel if their journey is essential.
For services between Shrewsbury, Aberystwyth and Pwllheli, customers should be aware that services are likely to be busy and conditions on board could be very warm. Customers who are feeling unwell should consider whether they need to travel. If they do travel, they should bring water, stay hydrated and speak to a member of the onboard team immediately if they begin to feel unwell.
On Saturday 11 July and Sunday 12 July, no trains will run between Newport and Shrewsbury due to essential Network Rail engineering work, with rail replacement services operating on this route.
Temporary changes to our onboard food and drink offering
Due to the hot weather, we're making more room onboard for water and soft drinks to help keep customers hydrated. As a result, alcoholic drinks will not be available for purchase on our services this week and weekend.
We’ll also be operating a trolley service offering cold food items only on our long-distance services between Cardiff and Holyhead, and Cardiff and Manchester.
