Our apprenticeship programme
Introduction
We're proud to support young professionals with training, development and a salary as they build their career and gain valuable work experience. The Apprenticeship Programme was introduced in September 2019 and since then we’ve proudly welcomed 38 apprentices to the organisation. The launch of this programme represents a key milestone for us as we continue to develop our careers strategy and develop new opportunities for learning and working in Wales. Our apprentices have made a valuable contribution to TfW. They’ve focused on a range of projects during their time with us, gaining experience while also pursuing a relevant qualification.

2019/20
In 2019 we were delighted to have two Apprentices, Katie Ratcliffe and Demi Woodham, become finalists for the Wales Transport Awards ‘Apprentice of the Year’. Demi went on to win the award while Katie also became a finalist for the Rail Staff 2019 ‘Apprentice of the Year’. Reflecting on her experience, Demi commented, “I’m proud of what I have been able to achieve and so thankful I was given the opportunity”. Following the achievements of our current apprentices, TfW is delighted to offer 17 new apprenticeship opportunities.
During National Apprenticeship Week in February, the HR team ran an assessment day at the Principality Stadium to recruit the new apprentices. During this time, our apprentices spoke with candidates about how their experiences with TfW have benefited them and what to expect from the role. We look forward to developing the programme to support a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce.
Apprenticeships are a fantastic initiative to promote the railway industry as a great place to work and to inspire and develop the next generation of railway talent.
