
Can I take my bike on the train?
Yes, you can bring your bicycle on board but please note spaces may be limited. However, you can reserve a free cycle space in advance of your journey.
How do I make a bike reservation on a train?
To make a free reservation please contact our Customer Service team or by using our app.
You can call our Customer Service team on - 03333 211 202. Our lines are open from 08:00 - 20:00 Monday to Saturday and 11:00 - 20:00 Sunday.
What about e-bikes?
We welcome Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles (EAPC), more commonly known as e-bikes or e-cycles, on our train services under the same terms as standard pedal cycles but please be aware of the following:
- Charging an e-bike on board or at a station is not allowed at any time.
- Batteries must not be removed from the e-bike (unless designed to do so for folding purposes - e.g. a Brompton folding bike).
- An e-bike with a damaged battery cannot be carried on board.
- Spare e-bike batteries cannot be carried on board.
- Electrically modified or adapted e-bikes are not permitted on our trains.
What you need to know about taking bikes on trains
- If you haven’t made a reservation, spaces are available on a first come, first served basis and spaces may not be available during peak times.
- While we do our best to accommodate bikes on board, please note that during operational changes, disruptions, or large events, we might not always be able to accommodate them. The train manager has the final say on whether bikes can be carried on that service.
- We can’t take unaccompanied bikes on any of our trains.
- It’s up to the driver if you can take your bike on a replacement bus service.
- Motorbikes, mopeds, motor scooters, motorised cycles and tandem bicycles aren’t allowed on our trains.
- E-scooters are not allowed on our trains or in our stations under any circumstances.
- You must dismount and walk with your bike while at the station.
- National Rail Conditions of Travel apply, and we will not take responsibility or liability for damage or theft.
Bike parking on the train
All our trains have areas to park your bike, look out for the bicycle symbol on the train, you can also ask the train manager if you’re not sure. If you need help or information on how to secure your bike, please speak to the train manager. Please note on some services bike parking maybe in a shared space.
For everyone’s safety and comfort we ask that you park your bike correctly and, if it’ll cause an obstruction, remove any panniers or other luggage from your bicycle and place items in the storage spaces. Please keep all the aisles and exits clear for other customers to board and exit the train swiftly and safely.
