Meet our graduates

Callum

Operations Management Graduate

One of the main things that makes my role so enjoyable is the culture here.

Everyone is so friendly and willing to go above and beyond to provide support and guidance when I need it. I’ve never felt alone when faced with a difficult task. My colleagues are more than willing to share their expertise to help me.

The graduate scheme has been hugely valuable. I’ve learnt so much about the transport industry and met so many interesting people. I’m very grateful for the opportunity.

Looking ahead, I want to progress in my career with TfW as I continue to expand my knowledge and skills. I’m excited about the next phase of my journey and keen to see what the future holds.

Ross

Business Generalist Graduate

I’ve achieved so much while becoming more adaptable as a person.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time on the graduate scheme. I’ve gained excellent experience working on a multitude of different projects while completing several qualifications, including my postgraduate certificate in business management and multiple project management qualifications.

Thanks to everyone who’s been so supportive and made this a great experience. This includes my fellow graduates, line manager, mentor, placement managers and colleagues I’ve worked closely with on key projects.

I’m looking forward to starting my new position because I feel I’ve gained a more rounded understanding of TfW’s mission than I would have working in a single team. This is just one of the reasons why the graduate scheme has been so valuable.

Ifan

Operations Management Graduate

The support from the Early Talent team and my managers has been fantastic.

The Rail Operations Management graduate scheme allowed me to rotate between different teams, from train driving and conducting to fleet control and commercial management. I also worked with our delivery partners at Network Rail and Amey.

Over the past year, I’ve been involved in exciting projects, including planning and delivery of the Eisteddfod in Pontypridd, bringing brand-new trains into service and learning how we keep Wales’ rail network running safely from the control centre.

Looking to the future, I’m eager to start my new role as an assistant project manager in the customer operations team. The knowledge and experience I’ve gained from the graduate scheme has provided a solid foundation for this.

Jessica

HR Graduate

The graduate scheme helped me build professional relationships across TfW.

The rotations between different teams empowered me to learn and gain on-the-job experience of the different aspects of HR and recruitment. I was impressed with how many opportunities I was given to contribute to key projects that make the workplace culture here so positive and inclusive.

I’ve loved my time on the graduate scheme. Even during challenging times, I’ve had the support and encouragement of my manager, mentors and peers. This gave me the confidence to step outside my comfort zone.

I’m feeling positive about the future. The professional relationships I’ve built and the skills and knowledge I’ve gained have enabled me to secure a permanent role. It’s a career path I’d recommend to others.

Aaron

Engineering Graduate

The graduate scheme provided an opportunity to get myself involved in the industry.

I’ve developed my technical knowledge and skills, learning on the job. At the same time, I’ve benefited from excellent leadership workshops with my fellow graduates.

Completing my chosen professional qualification has set me up well for a future with TfW as I work towards professional status. I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my career.

Jamal

Finance Graduate

I’m a different person to the one I was before I joined the graduate scheme.

My time on the programme has concluded. It’s the end of a brilliant journey that could be challenging at times but was ultimately rewarding and positive.

Some of the things that were so beneficial for me were the opportunities to meet a range of people from different teams, learning from their expertise and perspectives. The rotations expanded my knowledge of TfW’s mission while the leadership workshops developed me as a person, which is just as important.

This journey has helped me formulate my career path. This was the main thing I wanted to get out of the graduate programme.
