Due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time between Cardiff Central (CDF) and Cheltenham Spa (CNM):

Services will be cancelled in both directions between Cardiff Central (CDF) and Cheltenham Spa (CNM).

We expect the incident to last until the end of the day and disruption to services is expected from 06:00 until the end of the day.

What's Happened?

Due to a shortage of trains, Transport for Wales trains are unable to run between Cardiff Central and Cheltenham Spa in either directions.

We apologise for the disruption caused to your journey. We are currently sourcing alternative road transport, please check back later for operator details.

Alternative Travel Options

Your ticket can be used on the following alternative routes to help you complete your journey, with the Train Operating Companies listed below at no extra cost:

CrossCountry services between Cardiff Central and Cheltenham Spa in both directions
GWR services between Cardiff Central and Severn Tunnel Junction in both directions

These arrangements are in place until the end of the day.

Customers can use local bus services to complete journeys where possible at no extra cost:

Route 56 provided by Stagecoach South Wales between Newport and Crosskeys via Rogerstone and Ponytmister.
Route X15 provided by Stagecoach South Wales between Newport and Llanhilleth via Rogerstone, Crosskeys and Newbridge.
Route 151 provided by Stagecoach South Wales between Newport and Newbridge via Pye Corner, Rogerstone, Pontymister, Risca and Crosskeys.

Route Konnect develop IoT sensor networks to track more detailed real-time traffic and congestion movements. They worked with Transport for Wales during cohort 2 of the innovation accelerator to solve anonymously counting and tracking passengers at trains and stations for TfWR.

This information can then be provided in real-time to provide live data to the front line and to customers, allowing rail passengers on trains and in stations to make more informed decisions surrounding their travels.

Their MVP included passenger counting, seat occupation detection, as well as checking social distancing and mask compliance between passengers. Their solution would allow stations to test layout changes to improve passenger flow with real-time information. Route Konnect received a commendation as part of cohort 2 for excellent performance across the programme.
