Spatial Cortex were our cohort 2 winners - pitching a wearable bio-mechanical monitoring system that combined proprietary technologies to monitor staff well-being. This would help improve the well-being of staff, as well as prevent work-based injuries and sickness from occurring.

Manual handling injuries are a major contributor to lost-time injuries in the rail industry. Given that TfW has recently taken over CVL infrastructure, it is crucial that necessary steps are in place to remove and prevent any likely manual handling injuries.

Staff who work trackside in maintenance and in depots, who carry out lifting, carrying and manipulating materials and tools in awkward postures are likely to have health/posture problems. Spatial Cortex specialise in developing wearable technology to allow quantitative assessments and provide deeper insights to prevent manual handling injuries while overcoming the drawbacks of current risk-assessment practices.
