Crewe, Careers and Railway 200
On 16 October 2025, we teamed up with Crewe Engineering and Design UTC to host Crewe, Careers and Railway200. It celebrates the crucial role railways played in shaping the history and heritage of Wales and the Borders - and its vital role shaping careers today.
More than 500 young people aged 7–19 took part in activities led by professionals from rail, academia and community organisations. Hands-on workshops were offered, designed to inspire and challenge young people to build essential skills.
A real-world insight into recruitment was offered, with learners supported throughout the process. Older students from the college participated in a mock interviews, gaining valuable experience. Direct feedback was provided to support their future development.
Young people from Crewe UTC and local schools explored the exhibition space, showcasing career possibilities in the rail industry, from engineering and design to operations and innovation.
Emma Roberts, Railway 200 National Programme Manager, attended the event and had a personal tour of the college from Principal Will Chitty.
Emma said, “One of the key legacies we hope Railway 200 will deliver is really inspiring the next generation to consider a career in the railway and know more about careers in the railway... It’s fantastic that Transport for Wales are working with a broad range of industry partners and academia to do that.”
Crewe Engineering and Design UTC provide a curriculum that supports leaners to graduate ‘Industry Ready’. The college is a vital resource to learners, preparing them for the next stage of their lives.
