Off-Peak train tickets are the perfect way to save money on your train journey by travelling during quieter times during the week and on weekends. You’ll pay between ⅓ and ½ less than you would during peak times - but will have to travel during specified times.

Available at quieter times of the day, Off-Peak tickets offer great value and flexibility.
You can buy your Off-Peak ticket prior to the day of travel or just before your journey. Even better, you can use them any time at weekends and bank holidays.
If you’re looking for even better value, we have Super Off-Peak tickets that are a little less flexible but offer greater savings.

What are Off-Peak train times?
Off-Peak train times generally begin at 09:30 from Monday to Friday in cities and large towns, and 09:00 everywhere else. Restrictions apply to Singles and both the outbound and return portions of a Return ticket. Super Off-Peak tickets will have further restrictions.

Which trains are Off-Peak?
It varies depending on your location. It’s usually trains that operate outside of rush hour. Generally, services between 09:00-30 and 16:00, then after 18:30 are Off-Peak services.
How to buy Off-Peak train tickets
Like all our tickets, buying your Off-Peak directly with us is cheapest, as you’ll pay no booking fees. You can buy online through our journey planner, on our app or at the station.
You can spread payments over three instalments using PayPal Pay in 3 if your purchase is over £30. You’ll find more information on this when you come to the payment screen.
Super Off-Peak train times
Super Off-Peak train tickets work in the same way as Off-Peak but can be even better value for money. They also come with more availability restrictions.
Super Off-Peak tickets are available on weekends and bank holidays as well as through the week from 10:00 until 15:30, then after 19:30.

What happens if I travel on a normal train?
If you travel during peak times with your Off-Peak ticket, you’ll have to pay the difference between the ticket prices. On some services, you may have to buy a new ticket.
