Due to a person being hit by a train between Crewe (CRE) and Wilmslow (WML):

Services may be delayed by up to 60 minutes.

Services may be cancelled in both directions between Crewe (CRE) and Manchester Piccadilly (MAN).

We expect the incident to last until 13:00 and disruption to services is expected from 10:36 until 17:00.

The emergency services are dealing with this incident between Crewe and Wilmslow. We're unable to run trains through the area. We'll publish more information here shortly. We apologise for the disruption caused to your journey.


Your ticket can be used on the following alternative routes to help you complete your journey, with the Train Operating Companies listed below at no extra cost:

  • Avanti West Coast between Manchester Piccadilly and Alderley Edge for Stockport.
  • Northern services between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe via Stoke-on-Trent
  • Northern service between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester.


These arrangements are in place on services until further notice.

If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost.

Network Rail have reported heavy snowfall in the area between Hereford and Shrewsbury and closed the railway to all services. You cannot travel - there are no trains running and we are unable to run Rail Replacement Bus services.


Your ticket can be used on the following alternative routes to help you complete your journey, with the Train Operating Companies listed below at no extra cost:

  • West Midlands Railway between Shrewsbury and Birmingham New Street.
  • CrossCountry between Birmingham New Street and Bristol Parkway


These arrangements are in place on services until end of day.

If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost.

Major Disruption

Severe Weather Disruption for Wales and Cross Borders Routes

On Friday 9th January, no trains will be able to operate on the following routes:

  • Llandudno Junction to Llandudno - suspended.
  • Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog - suspended.
  • Wrexham to Bidston - suspended.
  • Craven Arms to Swansea service (via Heart of Wales Line) - suspended.
  • Services West of Carmarthen - suspended.
  • Maesteg to Ebbw services - suspended.
  • Hereford to Shrewsbury services - suspended.
  • Shrewsbury to Birmingham International - suspended.
  • Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth - suspended.

On Friday 9th January, a reduced timetable will operate, with the following services operating on the following routes:

  • 1 train per hour (tph) Carmarthen - Cardiff Central.
  • 1 train every two hours on the Shrewsbury to Crewe local service.
  • 1 tph Cardiff Central - Cheltenham Spa.
  • 1 tph Chester – Manchester.

Due to poor driving conditions and closures on local roads, no replacement road transport will be provided. Local bus services are also affected. Please check your journey before travelling.
