We're reimagining roads and car usage
We know that Electric vehicles (EVs) have a key role in decarbonising the transport sector in Wales. We’re making it easier to choose EV vehicles when travelling by other sustainable means isn’t always possible for every journey.
We’ve been working closely with local authorities and the private sector to support the delivery of EV charging points across Wales. Using our expertise, we’ve developed tools to assist investors in identifying optimal sites for EV charging to ensure that the people of Wales can keep on moving.
We’ve also worked with partners to deliver 11 of a planned 19 EV charging sites across the strategic road network and we hope to have the remainder completed soon. In May 2023 there were 25,000 battery electric vehicles (BEV) being registered in the UK. This was 16% of the market share and an increase of 58.7% of sales from the same time last year.
There are now over 43,000 public charge points in operation across the UK and 1,628 of these were installed in May 2023. This continues to increase each month making the choice of EV easier than ever before.
EV Rally starts in Cardiff on 3rd July 2023
If you’ve ever wondered what an EV vehicle can do, you can check out the GreenFleet EV Rally. On 3rd July 2023, the EV Rally arrives in Cardiff. It is a demonstration of UK and Irish EV charging infrastructure, combined with clean and innovative vehicle technology.
The EV Rally 2023 is set to break all boundaries by travelling from Cardiff to Dublin, via London, Edinburgh and Belfast in just 5 days. This has never been done, on a scale that will see around 50 all-electric motorcycles, cars, vans and trucks drive in excess of 1,200 miles, carrying people, luggage and cargo.
The rally will take in many of the beautiful landmarks across the UK and Ireland, but most importantly, showcase the charging infrastructure at the same time.
This is an important event that helps to highlight the choice of infrastructure across the UK and Ireland as well as the large choice of EV's that are on the market, including Vans and HGV's. There has never been more EV options for different purposes. No matter what the job, there is likely an EV available that can perform the task, improving efficiency, saving money and, overall, helping reach net zero.
We’re proud to be part of delivering the infrastructure to support this work in Wales and look forward to cheering the EV vehicles off from Cardiff in July.
