Top tips for smoother journeys

Taking the train?

The train is an ideal way to travel around Wales, especially if you’re looking to travel further afield. It’s convenient and quick. It’s affordable too, especially if you take advantage of the savings available.

Train tickets must be bought before travel. Plan your journey and buy tickets directly on our website or app. We don’t charge booking fees. You can also buy them at station ticket machines or ticket offices. Contactless pay as you go is available on busier parts of our network.

Our trains have free onboard Wi-Fi and charging points, ideal for tidying up an assignment, streaming, gaming or social media. Food and drink is available on some routes too.

Taking the bus?

The bus is one of the most common ways for students to travel in Wales. There’s a wide selection of local and longer-distance routes to suit all types of travel needs.

Services include TrawsCymru longer-distance services and fflecsi demand-responsive ‘bookable’ services.

If you’re taking the bus, use the journey planner to find the right route, times and more. You can also find the most up-to-date bus timetables or browse by location with the travel map to find the best service for you.

On most buses in Wales, you can buy your ticket from the driver with cash or contactless payment. Some operators let you buy in advance on their website or app.

Accessible travel

Most trains and buses in Wales are fully accessible. You can find out more on our accessible travel page. Find all the information you need to plan your journey and book assisted travel.
