Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, as you’d expect, is a lively and culturally diverse place to visit. Rich, vibrant and with plenty to see and do, it’s the perfect choice for a day trip. Cultural attractions vie with fun activities and things to see, and the shopping rivals London for quality, big names and designer labels.
The Cardiff Bay area is a great place to start your exploration. The instantly recognisable Millennium Centre is home to a varied programme of performing arts, including opera, musicals, contemporary bands and stand up comedy. However, there are also regular workshops, exhibitions and drop-in classes that are open to all. Continuing the performing arts theme, St David’s Hall has a diverse artistic programme running daily throughout the year.
In the centre of Cardiff, sits the dramatic Cardiff Castle. With its fairytale turrets, you can explore the deepest, darkest dungeons (watch out for the ghosts!) to the highest point, where you can gaze out over this buzzing city, while Cardiff Cathedral offers a serenity and stately beauty that should be high on your list of must-see attractions.
If you’re seeking an adrenaline buzz, Cardiff International White Water provides all the thrills and lots of spills for everyone, but if you don’t fancy getting wet, try the fantastic, white knuckle go kart track, or year round exhilaration with snowboarding or ski lessons.
For a retail fix, the Queen’s Arcade shopping centre is full of all the big name brands, while older Victorian arcades showcase chic artisan talents, with hand crafted jewellery, chunky warm knits, studio glassware and one-off pieces.
