Rich in culture, the city is home to Tate Liverpool. Brother to London’s famous art gallery, it houses collections by Klimt, Monet, Picasso, and of course, the works of L.S. Lowry. Depicting Northern England at the height of the Industrial Revolution, Lowry’s painted scenes from Manchester, Liverpool and Pendlebury, with his iconic ‘matchstick men’ showing people going about their daily lives. 

Mention Liverpool to anyone, and they will no doubt think of The Beatles. Although the group split in the early 1970s, they still are the beating heart of the city. The music and iconography of the Fab Four is everywhere, and numerous tours allow you to explore their haunts, locations of major events, including The Cavern Club, and where, as young lads, they played. The Beatles Story museum is home to an impressive collection of memorabilia and ephemera relating to their lives and music. The British Music Museum caters for a wider audience, whilst focusing on the much loved Mersey Beat sound that included Cilla Black, Gerry and the Pacemakers, the Hollies, and the hugely popular The Kinks.

Liverpool is a Mecca for shopaholics, and the vast shopping centre, Liverpool One, is home to all the big high street names, along with designer labels, many of which showcase their fashions here, whilst avoiding the London market altogether. Bond Street is the place to be if you are seeking even more exclusivity. Lined with gloriously artisan boutiques and independent retailers, this is the perfect place to hunt down one-off gifts, gorgeous trinkets and beautiful treasures.
