South East Wales

We’re introducing bus franchising in South East Wales by 2030, making services in Newport, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Caerphilly, Bridgend, Monmouthshire, Vale of Glamorgan, Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent more integrated, consistent and reliable. We’ll organise bus services so they best meet your travel needs, whether that’s work, education, healthcare or leisure.

Franchising allows us to set bus routes, timetables and customer service standards. Bus operators will deliver services on our behalf. The main benefits you’ll notice are:

  • simpler ticketing
  • fairer fares
  • clearer timetables and service information
  • a network easier to understand and use
  • more dependable services
  • fewer gaps in service provision
  • more joined-up journeys
  • support for future growth and investment in the region

We’re working closely with local authorities, bus operators and communities across South East Wales so they can have their say on how the network is shaped. We’ll share more details as franchising progresses and keep you informed throughout the changes.
