Aberystwyth route information

This route includes some coast and riverside walking around Aberystwyth’s south beach. The walk could be extended to include Pendinas hillfort.

  1. Exit the station and turn left along the A487. At the mini roundabout turn left along Park Ave. Follow past Marks and Spencer and Tesco. Take the first right after Matalan (Greenfield street). At the bottom turn left then right using the footbridge to cross the river. Continue straight over once over the bridge. (Marked cycle route 81) When you meet Penparcau road cross straight over and follow Pen Yr Angor. Follow this all the way to the beach.

  2. Walk along the path at the top of the beach keeping the Ystwyth river to your left and the beach to your Right. Follow the river and the path around to the left and head away from the beach, keeping the river on your left. Continue along the path along the edge of the river with the farmland on your right, the path meanders with the river and is steadily bending around to the right. You will eventually come through a pedestrian gate leading onto a road.

  3. Turn right onto the road, be mindful to not head up the track here. Continue to follow the road for a short while and turn right at the fork in the road towards Plas Tanybwlch.

  4. Continue along the lane until you come to a signpost to take a right leading onto a footpath. Follow the footpath until you come to the coast and Tan Y Bwlch beach. Go through the gate and onto the beach and then turn left and make your way back across the beach.

  5. Retrace your steps from the beach back up the road to the station.
