History of Aberystwyth station

Aberystwyth railway station originally opened in 1863 and was greatly extended and improved in 1925. The arrival of the railway transformed what had been a modest coastal town into a thriving tourist resort, with hotels, new attractions and the construction of the famous Royal Pier, drawing visitors from across the UK. The station's impressive grand facade won the National Railway Heritage Award in 2003. It continues to serve nearly half a million passengers a year.

Aberystwyth station is also the starting point for the Vale of Rheidol Railway, a narrow-gauge steam heritage railway that runs for 12 miles through the Ceredigion countryside to Devil's Bridge. It's a wonderful day out for families and railway enthusiasts alike.
