Wales is a brilliant place for a big day out with your favourite people. We have it all, from white-knuckle rollercoasters and record-breaking zip wires to vintage fairgrounds and eco-friendly adventure parks. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or just want a fun day with the kids, there’s something here for everyone.

We want to help you travel in ways that are good for the planet and good for real life.

Choosing the train or bus for your next big day out is a smart way to dodge the traffic and stress of finding a parking space. It’s a positive way to travel that lets the fun begin the moment you leave your front door.

Our favourite theme and adventure parks

Heatherton is a unique, award-winning attraction that operates on a "pay as you play" basis, meaning you only pay for the activities you want to do. It’s divided into four action-packed zones: the Family Fun Zone, Adrenaline Zone, Play Zone, and Golf Zone. Whether you're hurtling around the 500m go-kart track, tackling the Tree Tops Trail high ropes, or trying your hand at laser clay pigeon shooting, there’s something here for everyone. It's dog-friendly too, with its very own dog agility course!

  • Getting there: The park is about three miles from Tenby station, a one-hour walk. You can catch a taxi from the station or use the fflecsi bus service, which can be booked in advance to drop you right at the Heatherton entrance.

  • Top attraction: The Aerospace (A high-flying thrill ride)

  • Price: Free entry to the park, pay per ride using tokens

For a classic Welsh seaside experience, you can't beat Barry Island. The Pleasure Park is a historic amusement park right next to the beach, famous for its fairground. For many of us, it’s a trip down memory lane that still offers plenty of modern thrills. The park is literally across the road from the station, making it one of the easiest days out on our network.

  • Getting there: We run regular services from Cardiff Central, taking about 30 minutes to reach the island.

It’s a brilliant way for kids to learn about sustainability while having a world of fun. The park is nestled in 27 acres of woodland at the foothills of Eryri.
