The Cathedral city of Hereford has several ancient and beautifully designed churches. Hereford Cathedral is stunning with its Romanesque columns, semi-circular arches, and choir stalls carved with bizarre grotesque faces and mythological beasts. Housing the Hereford Mappa Mundi, the largest surviving medieval map in the world, this is certainly a must-see.
Museum enthusiasts should head for the Black and White House Museum, also known as the Old House. With its timber-framed exterior, leaded bay windows, and intricately carved doorway, The Old House is impressively well preserved. Containing glorious oak furniture, ancient relics, and some great interactive displays for children, this iconic part of Hereford’s history shouldn’t be missed.
The city of Hereford is also known for cider production. The popular Bulmer cider converted their factory into a museum where you can learn the history of cider production in the city, the milling and pressing of apples, and the fermentation process which produces the alcoholic beverage. You can even try your hand at making a batch of the famous brew!
Housing some quaint independent retailers, Hereford city centre has everything you’d expect from a busy cosmopolitan area - big name, high street stores, plenty of cafes and high-end restaurants just perfect for an evening meal before catching the train home.
