The cathedral city of Hereford dates back to the Saxon times. Well-preserved buildings constructed during the 7th century spread an atmosphere of antiquity and medieval charm across the city. However, this is a contrast to the cosmopolitan attitude that this university town has, creating a delightful mixture of ancient and modern. With plenty of activities and sights to see, there’s something to keep everyone happy
Overlooking the city is the magnificent Gothic architectural structure of Hereford Cathedral. Standing tall since the 12th century, this is the home of the much studied priceless Mappa Mundi, the largest surviving medieval map of the world. Also found within the cathedral is one of the few remaining chained libraries, with treasured books that have survived 700 years or more!
For something different, head to the Cider Museum and learn how the golden nectar has been produced for generations. With a hands-on approach, you may even get to press the apples yourself, and don’t forget to sample the large variety of ciders - every apple gives a different finish, and on a warm day, this is a welcome break!
Keeping big and little kids happy, visit the adrenaline fuelled HS Activities. Offering paintball, laser tag, archery, shooting and more, why not have fun while learning a new skill? Plus, there’s a friendly pub nearby for you to relax while your youngsters tire themselves out.
The Courtyard Theatre is a haven for culture vultures, and with a year round programme of performances, events and exhibitions, including comedy and classic stage shows, this is the perfect end to your day - a sumptuous meal in a nearby restaurant, followed by a show.
