Multiflex isn’t disappearing completely!
It’s still available on other routes (see examples in the fare table below), giving you 5% off when you buy a bundle.
Multiflex gives you the freedom to travel when it suits you - without the stress of traffic jams or the scramble for a parking space.
And unlike return tickets, you can travel in either direction, at any time of day, between your chosen stations.
Multiflex tickets are valid for three months, giving you plenty of time to use them.

Multiflex tickets are flexible train tickets exclusive to the TfW app. You’ll also need this to activate them before they can be used. Just toggle Multiflex once you’ve chosen your preferred route.

PayPal Pay in 3
You can spread the cost of your train tickets with pay in 3 from PayPal when you spend £30 or more. Just select ‘Pay with PayPal’ when you come to the payment screen and follow the instructions.

- 5% discounted price is a comparison of 12 Multiflex Tickets to the equivalent 6 Standard Day Returns.
- Multiflex is available on routes outside of the South Wales Metro area under 50 miles where there is an established 7-day season ticket.
- 12 identical point-to-point single journeys for travel in either direction.
- Each ticket must be activated to make it valid for travel.
- Multiflex has an overall validity for three calendar months from date of purchase.
- Each of the twelve individual journeys can be made at any time during the validity period.
- Each ticket can only be activated and used for one single journey which must be completed within 4 hours of activation.
- Customers must travel from origin to destination, break of journey is not permitted, unless leaving the train before the destination station.
- Multiflex tickets are non-refundable.
- Prices valid as of 01/03/2025.
- Multiflex tickets are a Transport for Wales product and they’re only available on routes we price. Other train companies * covering the same routes will accept our Multiflex tickets.
*Some shared routes with Merseyrail do not offer Multiflex.

Why is Multiflex being removed in the Metro area?
We’re simplifying fares to make sure you get the best value for your travel across our network.
Since we introduced pay as you go in the Metro area, fewer people have been using Multiflex tickets. That’s because pay as you go is not only the cheapest equivalent fare for Metro journeys, but also the most convenient. Plus, it comes with added benefits like daily and weekly fare capping - helping you save even more.

Can I still use my existing Multiflex tickets after 30 September?
Yes, any Multiflex tickets purchased before or up to the 30 September will remain valid on Metro services until they expire.
Will Multiflex still be available outside the Metro region?
Yes, Multiflex tickets will continue to be available for travel outside the Metro.
What is pay as you go and how does it work?
Pay as you go allows you to tap in and tap out with a contactless card or smart device, automatically calculating your best value fare. It's available at 95 stations in South East Wales and includes daily and weekly fare capping. You can find out more about pay as you go here.
Is there a risk I’ll pay more with pay as you go?
No. Pay as you go is designed to be the most convenient and cost-effective option for travelling in the Metro, especially with fare capping in place.

Is pay as you go valid on GWR trains?
Pay as you go is valid on all TfW and Cross-Country services in the Metro. However, pay as you go is not valid for GWR services between Cardiff and Newport. There are other flexible ticketing options available for those opting to travel on GWR services between Cardiff and Newport.
Where are Multiflex tickets being removed from?
Multiflex tickets are being removed from the entire Metro zone. This is inclusive of any stations that have pay as you go enabled.
What happens if I’m travelling from outside of the Metro into the Metro, or vice versa, using a Multiflex ticket?
If you travel from a station that’s outside of the Metro into the Metro, or vice versa, then your Multiflex ticket will remain valid for use, provided that the journey is under 50 miles. Please note that from 30 September prices for Multiflex tickets will change for journeys between Metro and non-Metro stations.
Can I buy more than one Multiflex ticket at one time?
Yes, you can buy more than one Multiflex ticket at a time. However, the tickets will need to be validated and used within the three-month expiry window.
Please note that Multiflex tickets will no longer be available to purchase for journeys within the Metro region from 30 September.
After the 30 September, can I still buy a Multiflex ticket from a station outside of the Metro that has an end destination within the Metro?
Yes, you can still purchase a Multiflex ticket beyond the 30 September if you're traveling from an origin station outside of the Metro to an end destination within the Metro.
Please note that Multiflex tickets will not be available to purchase for journeys that are over 50 miles.
