Lying in one of the original counties of Wales, Monmouthshire in the south-east of the country, Cwmbran was developed in the same area that many Neolithic, Bronze and Iron Age tribes had settled, leaving their treasures behind to be found centuries later. These are now on display in local museums and are a fascinating glimpse into the past. Designed as a New Town in 1949 to house employees from the nearby coalfield, it now is home to a wealth of exciting attractions and things to see.

Running right past the town is the circular walking route, the Cistercian Way. Stretching for a leg-aching 650 miles, it takes in the great historic sites of Wales, including Tintern Abbey, and Neath Abbey, but also goes through some of the most glorious countryside you’ll ever see.
For a dose of culture, head for the Congress Theatre and enjoy their year round programme of events, performances and exhibitions. The building itself is a cultural exhibit, with the facade displaying a charming clock face. This features two carved and painted figures - Dai and Myfanwy, who are much loved by locals. The Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre offers workshops, art shows, craft stalls and a popular tea room, and is the ideal place to while away an afternoon.
To satisfy the urge to splurge, retail lovers should visit the Cwmbran Centre where all the high street big names are together under one roof. Designer labels, department stores and exclusive boutiques are all conveniently situated, while outside the Centre, merchants with window displays full of locally produced gifts, treasures and delicious treats are round every corner. Hand burnished copper, silver jewellery and studio pottery vie for your attention alongside chunky, bright coloured knitwear, and baskets of homemade pastries and cakes.
Cwmbran is a wonderful town to explore, offering a wide variety of attractions.
