If you’re looking for family fun, head for the Techniquest science centre in Cardiff Bay. Part science, part sci-fi, part Welsh history and all excitement, this offers interactive learning with daring fully immersive experiments. Big and little kids will love it and are bound to learn something new and feel inspired to explore this city further.
Adrenaline seekers should make for the upmarket Bay area, where Cardiff International White Water is based. Choose from a variety of water sports, including white water kayaking, and the even more thrilling challenge of tackling the rapids on a raft! Try paddleboarding, hot dogging and a chance to dry off on the aerial trails. There’s a great restaurant here, too, if you fancy a re-energising break.
Remaining in Cardiff Bay, the iconic Millennium Centre is a must-see. Constructed from the natural materials of Wales - slate, wood, metal and glass, and reflecting the true spirit of the country, this magnificent building is home to the performing arts. The full programme spans the year, and includes ballet, opera, and even stand up comedy. Cardiff Castle, too, hosts entertaining live performances and at night is lit up like a beacon across the city. With its imposing granite edifice, it makes an impressive tourist attraction.
The Queen’s Arcade shopping centre provides the perfect therapy for shopaholics. The bright lights of big high street names and exclusive stores put Cardiff high on the designer map. However, if you’re after something more unique and quirky, the Victorian arcades are the places to head for. Showcasing local talent, these gorgeously chic boutiques house an eclectic mix of treasures, perfect for taking back to Liverpool.
