Conwy, lying on the north coast of Wales, sits on the wide and picturesque River Conwy. With architecturally impressive bridges crossing this span, including the suspension bridge, designed by Thomas Telford, Conwy is a popular tourist destination, and it’s easy to see why.
Founded in the 13th century, the walls surrounding the town were constructed for defence, and stretch for nearly a mile. Including towers, gatehouses and the imposing Castle, the area is a UNESCO world heritage site. Bearing witness to many wars, it’s survived sieges, rebellions and near ruination. Now run by Cadw, why not take advantage of our 2-for-1 entry and visit this awe-inspiring attraction in the heart of Conwy.
Hidden away is the stunning Plas Mawr, or the Great Hall, renowned as the finest surviving Elizabethan town house in Britain. Take advantage of our 2-for-1 entry for Plas Mawr too. Built in the 16th century by a wealthy merchant for his wife, its preservation is the work of Cadw. Featuring carved plasterwork and stunning architectural details, this is a must-see.
At the other end of the spectrum, head for the Smallest House in Britain. It was built as an infill between two rows of cottages, was actually lived in until 1900, and is even listed in the Guinness Book of Records. With a floor area of 10.0 by 5.9 ft, this red painted building is hard to miss, despite its diminutive size.
