Tips and advice for travelling on a match day

Match day travel can be very busy. But if you’re prepared, the train can be a quick and easy way to get there.

Follow the below tips for hassle-free travel:

  • Check our live updates before travelling. Use the live updates tool to see the latest travel information before you set off.
  • Buy in advance for the most affordable tickets. Buy an Advance ticket up to 12 weeks ahead of travel.
  • Use a Railcard. Save up to a third with a Railcard.
  • Get there early. Get to the station 20 minutes before your train is due to make sure you have plenty of time to get to the right platform.
  • Have your tickets ready. Whether they’re on your phone or a paper ticket, please have them ready for inspection.
  • Travel light when possible. Keep baggage to a minimum to avoid disruption.
  • Plan how you’ll get to the stadium. Walking, bus or a taxi. Have a plan that suits you.
  • Give yourself time on the return journey. Don’t book the first train back. Make sure you have time to get back to the station.
