Live departures and arrivals

Constitution Hill has an elevation of nearly 100 metres, which, on a good day, affords a view all the way to Eryri. The best way to reach the peak is the Electric Cliff Railway. This is one of the longest funicular railways in the British Isles and originally used a water balance system for power, switching to electricity in the early 1920s. At the summit, the world’s largest Camera Obscura allows you to view a 360-degree panorama in fantastic detail. Look down at the town and you can see the remains of Aberystwyth Castle. Ruins of the towers, gatehouses and what’s left of the town’s protective walls sit next to modern buildings. Once considered the greatest castle in Wales, it has withstood attacks, sieges, spent time housing the Royal Mint, and being a warehouse for the storing of lead. Covering a large acreage, the castle ruins offer a fun playground for adventurous children.

For those seeking a retail fix, all the big high street brands and the more exclusive designer names line Aber’s streets. If, however, you’re after something to satisfy the unusual taste, the town is home to a number of luxury independent boutiques. Showcasing local artists and craftspeople, their stores are full of gorgeous chunky knitwear, studio pottery and mouth blown glass. Handcrafted silver jewellery compete for your attention with homemade cakes and pastries. Why not treat yourself to some clotted cream fudge for the journey home?
