Transport for Wales railcards

You can make some great savings with our railcards. Here's what you can get:
Heart of Wales Railcard
You’re eligible for this railcard if you’re aged 16 or over and live along the route of the Heart of Wales line. You can get a 1/3 off your rail journeys between Swansea/Llanelli and Shrewsbury via Llandrindod Wells.
Got this railcard and travelling with children? You can take up to two children aged 5-15 with you for just £2 each. Under 5's travel for free.
It will cost you just £13.50. Buy your railcard now from one of our station ticket offices at Swansea, Llanelli, Llandrindod or Shrewsbury.
Valleys Senior Railcard
If you’re aged 60 or over, you can save 50% on Anytime and Off-Peak Day Return tickets for a year with a Transport for Wales Senior Railcard. It can be used for journeys in and between Cardiff and the South Wales valleys after 09:30.
It will cost you just £13.50. Buy your railcard now from one of our station ticket offices.
Valleys Student Railcard and Cardiff Local Routes
For only £13.50 a year, our Student railcard gives you 1/3 off your day tickets and 10% off all season tickets for journeys in and between Cardiff and the South Wales valleys. These discounts apply out of term and at weekends too.
Cambrian Railcard
For only £13.50 a year, you can get 1/3 off most Standard Class fares on the Cambrian line with a Cambrian Railcard. You can also take up to two children aged 5-15 with you for just £2 each. Under 5's travel free.
The Cambrian line runs between Pwllheli, Aberystwyth, Machynlleth, Newtown, Shrewsbury and all stops in between.
Pembrokeshire Railcard
Are you aged 16 or over and do you live in a Pembrokeshire postcode? For just £13.50 a year, you could be eligible for a Pembrokeshire Railcard. You can get a 1/3 off certain rail journeys in Pembrokeshire, extending to Swansea via Carmarthen. You can also take up to two children aged 5-15 with you for only £2.00 each.
You can purchase your railcard at Carmarthen or Haverfordwest ticket office.
The railcard is only available to residents who live in the following postcodes: SA34 0; SA61 1; SA61 2; SA62 3; SA62 4; SA62 5; SA626; SA63 4; SA64 0; SA65 9; SA66 7; SA67 7; SA67 8; SA68 0; SA69 9; SA70 7; SA70 8; SA71 4; SA71 5; SA72 6; SA73 1; SA73 2; SA73 3.
18 Saver Railcard
The Transport for Wales 18 Saver Railcard provides a 50% discount on Standard Class fares on TfW rail services only. Check out the area of validity below.
You must be aged 18 and you’ll need to provide proof of age when you buy your railcard. It costs £22.
The railcard is valid for one year from the date issued. Remember it can only be used on TfW rail services.
You can buy the railcard at our station ticket offices or from our retail agents.
All tickets are issued according to the National Rail Conditions of Travel and are non-transferable.
Lost or damaged railcards can’t be replaced, so please keep them safe.
Please remember to sign your railcard as it won’t be valid otherwise. It can’t be transferred to anyone else and tickets bought with your railcard can only be used by you.
This railcard remains the property of Transport for Wales and you must return it to us if requested.
Please present your railcard for inspection if requested to by one of our staff. Otherwise you’ll need to pay a full Standard fare.
Validity of discounted railcard tickets
You can travel between the destinations shown on the ticket you’ve purchased with your railcard. Remember, you’ll need to present your railcard for inspection if asked.
Discounted tickets are only valid for travel on rail services operated by TfW and they’re no longer valid after their expiry date.
Tickets are subject to the National Rail Conditions of Travel and the conditions listed here.
In the event of conflict, the conditions here shall apply.

Check out our 50% discount available for 18 year olds
For just £22 a year, our 18 Saver Railcard gives you 50% off Standard Class tickets on applicable rail journeys with TfW only (see map for area of validity).

Student Railcard
The Transport for Wales Student Railcard gives you a 1/3 off your Standard Class fares and a 10% discount on Standard Class Season Tickets. It can be used on TfW rail services only, within the area of validity (see map below).
You must be in full or part-time education to be eligible for this card and you’ll need to provide proof of this when you buy it. The railcard is valid for one year from the date it’s issued.
The railcard can only be purchased from TfW station ticket offices and retail agents. All tickets are issued according to the National Rail Conditions of Travel and are non-transferable.
Please remember to sign your railcard as it won’t be valid otherwise. It can’t be transferred to anyone else and tickets bought with your railcard can only be used by you.

Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card
You can get 50% off rail tickets with a Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card. It’s free of charge and designed to help people who’re currently unemployed travel to job interviews at an affordable cost. The card expires after three months of use.
You can save 50% on:
- Anytime Day tickets
- Off-Peak Day tickets
- Season tickets (up to three months)
To be eligible for the Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card, you must be claiming:
- Universal Credit or Jobseeker’s Allowance between 3-9 months, if you’re aged 18-24
- Universal Credit or Jobseeker’s Allowance between 3-12 months, if you’re aged 25 or over
You can apply for a card at your local Jobcentre Plus. Speak to an advisor for more information.

Where to buy your Transport for Wales railcard
We offer a wide selection of discount railcards that can be used on our services. These can be bought from our station ticket offices.
Alternatively, buy your railcard from our Travel Management team. You can do this over the phone using a credit or debit card. We also accept cheques, which should be sent along with your railcard application, proof of address and any supporting documents to:

What if I've left my railcard at home?

If you don’t have your railcard, you’ll have to pay the full undiscounted fare unfortunately. If you show a discounted ticket during an inspection and you can’t also show us your railcard, you’ll need to pay the full undiscounted fare.

We can’t give refunds on these undiscounted tickets, but we may be able to give them for the unused part of your discounted ticket(s). You’ll need to pay an administration fee for this, which is taken from the refund.

Your railcard isn’t valid if you board a train without a ticket when the station ticket office was open – you can only buy the full Anytime Single or Return on the train with no discount. If you have children, please pay the normal child fare.

If the ticket office is closed, you can buy discounted tickets on the train. If you’re travelling in a Penalty Fare area, please speak to a member of staff to get a permit to travel before boarding the train.

Please keep your railcard safe as you’ll need it ready for inspection on both your outward and return journeys if you’ve bought a discounted ticket.
